How do NS train tickets work?

How does the ticket/QR code work?
Open station gates with the QR code. You will find the QR code in the ‘My rides’ section of the app. When checking tickets, the ticket inspector will scan your QR code. If there are no gates at the station, you do not need to do anything with the QR code. You can simply board the train.

Please note! If you buy an off-peak ticket, then you can go through the gate at the station from 5 minutes before the start of the off-peak hours, not before. So for example from 8.55am and 6.25pm. If you attempt to travel at peak times, you will not be able to open station gates and your ticket will not be valid for travel if it is checked on the train. Off-peak times are:

• Between 9.00 and 16.00 and 18.30 and 6.30 on weekdays
• Weekends
• Public holidays

How long is the ticket valid?
Your train ticket is valid on the day of travel and remains valid until 04.00 in the morning the following day. In other words, if you buy a ticket for a train that departs at 21.00 in the evening, you can continue to use your ticket until 04.00 the following morning.

Can I also travel on another train?
Yes. You can travel the same route on a later train operated by the same company.
